Major Tom

The codename used by Major Zero during the Virtuous Mission. He named himself after one of the tunnels dug by the prisoners in the movie "The Great Escape". The three tunnels in that movie were named Tom, Dick, and Harry. Major Zero mistakenly believed that Tom was the one the prisoners used to make their escape.

Later, after learning that Tom was in fact the tunnel discovered by the guards, Major Zero dropped the name "Major Tom" and adopted his original codename "Zero" for Operation Snake Eater.

"Major Tom" is also the name of the main character in the songs "Space Oddity" and "Ashes to Ashes" by rock musician David Bowie.
