Blue Rose

01

Roses are popular as decorative plants and have fascinated mankind since ancient times. For that reason, many varieties have been created since the 17th century by artificial hybridization; however, a blue rose was the only variety that no one could create and, over the years, it came to symbolize "impossibility".

However, thanks to advances in genetic engineering, in 2007, Japanese company, Suntory, and Australian company, Florigene, succeeded in developing a blue rose using the blue pigment, delphinine.
