When Naked Snake plunged into a waterfall in a desperate attempt to escape Groznyj Grad, he ended up in the River Styx, the passageway of the dead. There, he encountered a world between life and death, populated by the souls of those he had killed. The Sorrow was there to make Naked Snake feel his sadness.
