Kuwabara, kuwabara

01

An incantation in the Japanese language for warding off lightning. Around the 8th century, the Japanese scholar, Sugawara no Michizane, was demoted due to a change in government and he died in anguish after being exiled to Kyushu, Japan. It is said that he later became a thunder god and attacked Kyoto, which was Japan's capital. However, because his domain of Kuwabara escaped the lightning strikes, the story spread that it is possible to ward off lightning by chanting, "kuwabara, kuwabara".
