Korean War

A war that took place on the Korean Peninsula from 1950 to 1953. After the Second World War, the Korean Peninsula was subjected to "divide and rule", with Soviet forces occupying the North and US forces occupying the South. The border between the two was set at the 38th parallel north. Subsequently, the North became a communist country, while the democratic Republic of Korea was founded in the South. Before long North-South friction escalated and war broke out between the North, backed by the Soviet Union and China, and the South, supported principally by the United States.
