Mercenary

A professional soldier or army hired to fight. Mercenaries are defined in the Geneva Convention and their activities are limited. However, in reality, they are not controlled and a great number of mercenaries are sent into battlefields all over the world. Furthermore, in order to comply with international laws, for form's sake, the position of PMCs (private military companies) is described as being different to that of mercenaries.
