An operation involving two units, one of which intentionally acts to draw attention to itself, while the other uses the diversion to carry out the real mission.

When the Shadow Moses crisis broke out in 2005, the US military launched a squadron of its F-16 fighters from Galena Air Force Base in Alaska in a diversion to provide cover for Solid Snake's sneaking mission. Liquid Snake responded by dispatching a Hind-D helicopter. In this way, Solid Snake was able to sneak onto Shadow Moses without being detected.
