Meme

A mimetic particle; a kind of cultural gene. Memes are elements of culture and civilization that are inherited much the same was as genes: they are passed from one generation to the next, undergoing a process of selection and evolution. The term was coined in 1976 by Richard Dawkins. Fashions, customs, traditions, laws, stories, and knowledge are all examples of memes.
