Korteweg-de Vries equation. In 1965, US physicists, Zabusky and Kruskal, found a solution with particle behavior in the KdV equation. From that solution, it was understood that, at a certain constant wave motion, there are waves that will not lose their shape even if they collide with another wave. These waves were named "solitons".
