FOX Unit

An acronym for Force Operation X.

FOX was a special services division established by the CIA in the 1960s. Proposed by Major Zero, who once served in the SAS, it was a covert missions unit that fulfilled both special forces and intelligence duties. Operatives were aided in their Sneaking Missions by unique equipment developed within their own division, such as the Active Sonar, Motion Detector, Anti-Personnel Sensor, and Stealth camouflage. FOX mainly operated one-man infiltration missions, where a lone soldier entered the target location while others served as a remote support team. Unusual for its time, FOX assigned female members to its core team, probably due to Major Zero's stance on selecting members for their individuality and talent. Many within the CIA ridiculed the organization as a group of eccentrics.

FOX executed the Virtuous Mission and Operation Snake Eater in 1964, where their operative Naked Snake, succeeded in infiltrating Soviet territory on his own. His remote support team included Sigint, Para-Medic, and Major Zero.

In 1970, Gene, Cunningham, Python, Null, Elisa, and Ursula went renegade on San Hieronymo Peninsula. Using Metal Gear RAXA and a ballistic Metal Gear, they attempted to attack the Soviet Union, but were stopped by Naked Snake.

The Director of the CIA was assassinated in the same year, which led to the decommissioning of FOX.
