Sinking of the Fox Islands
02
At the beginning of the 2010s, it came to light that the Fox Islands were in danger of sinking due to subsidence caused by crustal activity and rising sea levels caused by global warming.
Recovering the hazardous material from the Shadow Moses Island's nuclear disposal facility, the US Army abandoned its control of the island.
According to the Third Assessment Report of the IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change), if the concentration of greenhouse gases continues to increase at the current rate, the average temperature of the entire world will be approximately 1 degree higher than its current level by 2025. The report also predicts the possibility of a rise of 3 degrees by the end of the 21st century. Moreover, the rise in sea level that will accompany the temperature change is predicted to be approximately 20cm by 2030 and approximately 65cm (or a maximum of approximately 1 meter) by the end of the 21st century.
