Gulf War Syndrome
In the USA, it is said that 80,000 of the 700,000 people who took part in the 1991 Gulf War suffer from a variety of symptoms including headaches, memory loss, joint pain, and depression. The matter was investigated by the President's Council but no clear conclusions were reached. It is also said that there are many birth defects among babies born after the Gulf War to fathers or mothers who served as soldiers (Gulf War Babies).
According to Liquid Snake, one cause of this is said to be the gene therapy performed on soldiers for soldier genetic research and the creation of Genome Soldiers (Next Generation Special Forces).
